Every month at Butler Branding, our team rallies around one of our core values. This month we focused on our tenth core value: Give Back. We volunteered at Madera County Food Bank, putting together boxes of food for their Thanksgiving giveaway.
The Madera County Food Bank puts together a large food giveaway every Thanksgiving, but this was one of their largest ever. Because of this year’s growing need, their goal was to give away 400 boxes. Butler helped fill all 400 boxes for the giveaway at our service event. A big topic of conversation this year was how the Food Bank has had to change to meet the demand for food this year. Some of their long-time volunteers could not continue volunteering because of increased health risk. School groups who would regularly volunteer were also few and far between. Thankfully, the Food Bank has filled the need for volunteers with community members eager to provide support.
The Food Bank crew has their system down to a science. Each box receives a certain amount of items, and every item goes into the box in a specific order. We worked with the “regulars” of the Food Bank, those who’ve been lending a hand for years. They put us to shame with their speed and skill, but after a little practice we were up and running nearly as fast as them.
It was hard work lifting big boxes of food, and keeping track of the box contents, but there really isn’t anything better than knowing you’re helping someone. As one volunteer put it, “You’re going to have the best sleep of your life tonight.” Not only because you’ll be sore from hard work, but also because your conscience is clear from giving back.
